Piano and Cello teaching in the Vale of Belvoir and Southwell areas.
Absolute beginners (hey, how does a piano work? and how do you read those funny sticks and blobs?) to advanced players (uh, I'm rather stuck on this trill in Bach's Prelude in Bflat major).
Our ethos is to encourage a love of music and music making and to broaden and deepen skills and foster a stronger musical appreciation. Most importantly, we believe that learning should be fun as well as engaging - we're all a little whacky in our own ways and that's why we don't work for institutions - we'd hate to be institutionalised and we see our pupils in the same light: each is unique, each has their own path to lead in life - and exploring path of music should be fun and exciting!
Initially, pupils follow a similar curriculum to ensure that they have a solid foundation in reading music and theory. As abilities develop, we follow their interests while encouraging an exploration of a variety of music.
We pride ourselves on working with each pupil's ability and aptitude while encouraging a deeper love of music.
While we encourage new piano tutors to develop teaching skills, it must be remembered that Grade 8 is not a teaching qualification. Too often, we have taken on students who have had amateur teachers and have had to unravel a lot - to the frustration of both pianist and parent who may have invested money to little avail. Quality is critical and getting the foundations right are so vital to the growth of the pupil's skills and hence enjoyment: beginning with a professional and music college graduate is critical.
We use examination boards when required but we do not impose the need to do exams for those who want to learn at their own pace and without exams.
Our music tutors have extensive performance and musical knowledge, reflecting our personal motto to "surround yourself with the best"
As a team we also work together to help foster a common ethos sharing experiences and tips to help individual pupils through difficult stages in their learning. We encourage professional development and further learning for our tutors (in any area of education, as it helps to broaden the mind).
We look forward to hearing from you!
